The purpose of the narrative text is to entertain/educate the listeners/readers. Yeah, we can read this type of the text for fun/pleasure. We can also use this text to educate/give education. As we know that narrative text usually brings something the listeners/readers to learn. A narrative text usually brings values, values of goodness, moral values. Through this type of text we can get some values not by force but by enjoyment. A narrative text can teach us about honesty, braveness, friendship, loyalty, hard working, solidarity, and so on.
