Once upon a time there lived a mouse deer, Si Kancil. He was very smart and always lucky. He always had a good trick to avoid any trap and grab.
One day he went to the stream to get water. He was very thirsty after going around the forest. He drank the water eagerly. But suddenly a crocodile caught his foot and said ", Gotcha! Very long time I've dreamed to eat your delicious heart, o poor Kancil!"
Calmly Si Kancil said," O dear crocodile, don't be greedy ... My heart will be too much for you yourself. My heart will be bigger and bigger when you take it from my body. It will be more than enough for at least twenty of you. So, take your friends here and eat my heart up. I'll wait for you here. I won't run away. Just hold my tongue!"
Without thinking too long, the crocodile eagerly went to invite his friends to have a party with Kancil's heart. Not very longer some crocodiles came. They tried to beat one another to be the first to grab Si Kancil.
But, then, Si Kancil shouted," Please, all of you, don't make any noise. I need quietness before you eat me. But firstly, I will make sure that all of you have come. So, stay side by side along from this bank of the river to the other bank. I will count you. Be ready! My heart will be more delicious at this time. The sun hasn't shone too bright."
Then, the crocodiles stayed side by side. Si Kancil then jumped from one crocodile's back to another and counted ," One, two, three ..... Alright, I think I've met a band of stupid creatures this morning. Thank you, all. You have taken me to this side of the river. Bye ... bye ... see you. I'll continue my trip then."
When the crocodiles realized what has happened they shouted at Si Kancil angrily.
